About Katarineko
Katarineko is a Japanese-learning web app for people who want comprehensible input tied to films they already love. It is a consumer product and has no public API.
What Katarineko does
Choose a Studio Ghibli or Akira Kurosawa film. Katarineko uses its vocabulary to give you pregenerated and personalized graded stories at a level you can read. Each sentence includes grammar analysis. Spaced-repetition review brings back what you have learned.
The reading stays connected to a film you care about, while the language stays within reach. Katarineko is for learners who want study material that points back to the Japanese that made them curious in the first place.
The team
Katarineko has a one-person team. Marce Coll is the indie builder who makes and runs the app. When you write to support, your message reaches the person building the product.
Why it exists
Content at your level is boring. Content you love is too hard. Katarineko exists to make comprehensible input for film lovers, using graded stories as the bridge between study material and the vocabulary of those films.
